Are You Thinking About Buying A Puppy?

Although they are very cute and adorable when sitting in that cubicle in the pet store, but you need to realise that when you buy a puppy you are buying a commitment for 10 to 15 years.  You should never just rush in and buy a puppy on the spur of the moment; it should be a decision that is made after much consideration on whether you are willing to have this commitment for the next few years.

You also need to consider what breed of dog would be appropriate for your home and your family.  There are so many different breeds available and they all have their good points and some have bad points and what might be best for one family may not necessarily suit another family.

So how do you decide which breed of puppy will be the right one for your family?

When choosing a breed you will need to consider the type of personality each breed is known for.  If you have children in your family you will particularly need to be careful when selecting a breed as some breeds are just not suitable around children.  There are other breeds that are perfect companions for children and these will be better suited if you do have children in your home.

The other thing to consider when choosing a breed is that some breeds are higher maintenance than other breeds.  So you really need to decide how much time you will have for grooming your dog and also the cost involved in clipping your dog if you choose a dog that needs regular clipping.

When you have an idea of what type of dog you want you will then need to decide where you will purchase your puppy from.  If you are after a pure bred dog then you would probably want to purchase from a registered breeder.  Otherwise you can purchase a puppy from your local pet store or even from your local pound where you may save a little puppies life.  Buying a puppy from the pound is also the cheapest option and your puppy will come with everything included such as vaccinations and de-sexing.

Whatever you decide make sure that you think it through and think about the long term aspect of having a dog in your life, and certainly do not rush into buying a puppy.

A dog is a man’s (or woman’s) best friend and with careful consideration as to what breed of dog will suite your family then you will find the ideal puppy to be your best friend for many years to come.
