Tips For Training Your New Puppy

Let’s face it, potty training
your puppy is not the most pleasant task in the world, but even
so it is a task that needs to be done, unless you are happy to
clean up his little mess around the house every day. I
don’t think too many people would be very happy doing this so
to avoid that situation you need to start training that
georgous new puppy right from the start. Here are a few
tips to help you toilet train that adorable new
puppy.
- When you are toilet
training your puppy stay calm and friendly and never smack
or be aggressive with him when he does make little
mistakes. At this age you are developing a bond with
this new member of your family and you don’t want to ruin
your bonding experience by constantly being aggressive with
him. Treat him kindly, calmly and remember that potty
training is only for a short time and it will be over
fairly soon.
- When potty training your
puppy always be consistent. Your puppy stands a much
better chance at knowing what he is supposed to be doing if
you are consistent with him. Get him into a routine
by feeding him at the same time each day and taking him
outside to go to the toilet after a feed. Remember
with his evening feed to give it to him three or four hours
before he goes to bed so that he had time for the food to
be digested and go to the toilet before going to
bed.
- Stick to your routine
while you are toilet training your puppy. The first
thing you should do when he wakes up in the morning is take
him outside to do his business. After he has had some
food in the morning take him outside once again to see if
he needs to go to the toilet. Remember that puppies
do not have as much control over their bladder and bowel as
an older dog and will need to go more often. Toilet
training your puppy is just like toilet training a human
child in that you will have more success if you are
sticking to a routine.
- Always remember to give
your puppy lots of praise when he gets it right.
Puppies love to make their owners happy and the absolutely
love it when they are praised. When he realises what
it is that he is being praised for he will want to do it
more to receive more praising from you.
Just remember that potty
training is only for a short time and you will be more
successful by being consistent and patient. Your puppy
needs to be taught exactly what it is that he should be doing
so don’t just expect him to know it. Always give lots of
praise when he gets it right so that the attention that he is
receiving from you is positive attention reinforcing positive
behavior from him.
